Warehouse Design and Operations Engineer
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to join our firm’s team in NYC and help us take on new warehouse design and improvement projects. Due to the current COVID-19 conditions, this role will be remote at the start. The ideal candidate would be willing to eventually relocate to NYC for when we resume going into the office.
Typical Job Responsibilities Include:
Working directly with clients and internal project teams to understand and solve the client’s business needs by:
Analyzing, synthesizing and taking actionable insights from various types of raw data sources (sales, inventory, warehouse transaction logs, etc.).
Creating state-of-the-art fulfillment center designs for our clients across all industries, including using various types of pallet rack, shelving, conveyor, automation, different forklift types, VLMs/carousels, etc.
Developing business cases to implement automation and new designs within distribution operations.
Process mapping and/or creating VSMs of current-state fulfillment processes and improved processes, implementing the changes and quantifying savings.
Selecting and implementing new warehouse management systems (WMS).
Conducting Best Practice audits of our client’s distribution centers.
Serving as an industry expert in warehousing and material handling.
Conducting business development activities such as proposal creation and sales presentations.
Researching and staying up to date on the latest trends and innovations in the warehousing world.
The Candidate We’re Looking for:
Is a graduate of a top university with an engineering degree (civil, mechanical, or industrial preferred).
Has a minimum of 3-5 years of directly applicable experience in design and/or warehouse operations.
Is highly proficient in AutoCAD.
Is proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Has impressive communication skills and is comfortable presenting to high-ranking members of the client team about logical, unbiased, analytical findings and recommendations.
Has a positive, can-do attitude, the ability to work independently and without direction and is eager to learn new things and be exposed to different industries.
In addition, we would prefer candidates with the following:
Knowledge of warehouse design, warehouse technology solutions, storage technologies, picking methodologies, ABC classification, and slotting.
Experience in 3PL warehousing, distribution centers or fulfillment centers.
Experience with WMS.
Has experience with analytical toolsets like SQL (strongly preferred), Excel, Access, R or Python, and track record of using analytics and metrics to drive recommendations and decisions.
Has experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Looker or Tableau.
Has exposure and understanding of lean/six sigma principles, and project management is a plus.
Is comfortable with 25-50% travel, depending on the project requirements, and wants to live and work in the New York City area.
